Offense Keeps Rolling As Softball Sweeps Felician

Waterbury, Conn.  – The Post University softball team's offense kept rolling along during another impressive doubleheader sweep, this time of Felician, 15-1 and 13-8 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Sunday at LaMoy Field.

The Eagles have now won four straight games and seven of their last eight. They sit at 14-6 overall and are fourth in the CACC. Post has also scored double digit runs in four straight games, a feat last accomplished by the 2009 team.

Game two was a wild back and forth affair as the Golden Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the first before the Eagles rallied in the bottom half of the inning. Cassidy Petrie and Caitlin DeAngelis walked to lead off the inning. After a fielder's choice from Kasey Jusino that scored Petrie, Bailee Zaccaro sent a no doubt two-run home run – her second of the season - over the left field wall to tie the game at 3-3. The next batter, Allyson Wallauer would do the same over the right field wall just inside the foul pole to give the Eagles the 4-3 lead.

The Eagles went up by as much as 7-3 highlighted by a two-run double by Courtney Brobst in the bottom of the fourth.

Felician rallied for five runs of their own to take an 8-7 lead, thanks in large part to a two-run homer by Nicole Spiegelberg, her sixth of the year.

After the first two batters grounded out in the bottom of the fifth, Brobst started an impressive five-run rally to give the Eagles the lead back with a single. Alexa Pacy followed with a single to left. Brobst turned on the jets and scored all the way from first, beating the throw to the plate to tie the game, 8-8.

The Eagles took the lead on a wild play. With runners on first and second, Cassidy Petrie singled to center field. Samantha Riccardulli got caught in a rundown between second and third. As the defense tried to get her out, Pacy made a dash for home and found herself stuck between third and home. But Felician catcher Sarah Harrell's throw back to third base hit Pacy and the ball went into the outfield allowing Pacy to score to give the Eagles the 9-8 lead.

Post added insurance in the inning on a wild pitch that scored Riccardulli followed by a two-run single by Zaccaro. The Eagles added one more run in the sixth.

Zaccaro finished the game going 2-for-4 with a run and four RBI. Petrie was 1-for-4 with three runs. Brobst went 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI and Pacy went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Demi Rivera earned the win in three innings of relief and is 4-1 on the season.

Game one was all Post after the team used a ten-run bottom of the fourth to ensure their win.

The ten-run third was on the heels of a five-run third which saw the Eagles score five runs as DeAngelis had an RBI double to tie the game followed by an RBI single from Zaccaro to give the Eagles the lead. Wallauer hit an RBI triple to make it 4-1.

In the fourth, the Eagles poured it on as fifteen batters came to the plate in the inning.

Brobst had a two-run single in the inning and DeAngelis and Jusino hit back-to-back two-run doubles in the frame.

DeAngelis finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Jusino went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Wallauer was 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. Zaccaro was 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI. Brobst and Pacy both drove in two and Rianne Mayer had an RBI single.

Bridget Betley pitched a five-inning complete game for her fifth win of the season. She struck out two.

Up next, the Eagles host the top team in the CACC, Georgian Court on Thursday, April 29 at 2:30 p.m. in a CACC doubleheader.
