Late Inning Heroics Propel Softball Over Dominican In Doubleheader Split

Orangeburg, N.Y. – The Post University softball team used a big seventh inning in a game one win as it split with Dominican in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference clash between two of the top four teams in the conference. The Eagles won game one, 5-3 while the Chargers won game two, 4-0.

The Eagles (10-6, 10-6 CACC) were down to their last out before their improbable rally in the top of the seventh.

Caitlin DeAngelis began the comeback with a double to left, followed by a single from Bailee Zaccaro to put runners on the corners.

It set the stage for Kasey Jusino, who doubled to centerfield to drive in both DeAngelis and pinch runner Carli Peruso to give the Eagles the lead. Allyson Wallauer then followed with a single to right to drive in Julia Maida – who pinch ran for Jusino – to give the Eagles the 5-3 lead.

Jusino was no stranger to the moment. In an April 10 win over USciences, Jusino broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run single in the top of the seventh to help lead the Eagles to victory.

Bridget Betley shut the door on Dominican (14-10, 13-3 CACC) in the bottom of the seventh, earning her fourth win of the season. She struck out three and gave up just three earned runs on eight hits in her complete game.

Dominican scored two runs in the top of the second to take an early lead. A single from Alexa Pacy – the hero in game two against Concordia on Sunday - in the top of the fourth cut the Eagles' deficit in half.

A home run in the bottom of the inning by Dominican's Alyssa Siess gave Dominican a 3-1 lead. Pacy again closed the gap with an RBI groundout to drive in Jusino, who doubled to lead off the inning.

Jusino finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run. Pacy went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Zaccaro had two hits and scored a run. Skylar Devorin went 2-for-3.

In game two, the Eagles had hits from Jusino, Wallauer and Courtney Brobst in the 4-0 loss.

The Chargers scored two runs in the second and fourth. Journey Limardo pitched a complete game for Dominican for her eighth win.

The Eagles go on the road to Goldey-Beacom on Saturday, April 24 in a CACC doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
