Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Meier And Kelleher Power Offense, But Men’s Lacrosse Falls In Close Match With Wilmington

Newark, Del. –  Nick Meier scored five goals and Brendan Kelleher added a hat trick of his own, but the Post University men's lacrosse team dropped a 17-14 match to Wilmington in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles (0-2, 0-1 CACC) fell behind 5-1 at the 6:55 mark in the first quarter, but the Eagles answered with five of the final six goals in the final 5:24 to tie the match at 6-6 heading into the second.

During that run, Mark Colella – who scored the Eagles first goal – and Kelleher scored goals 15 seconds apart. Meier, Jake Bova and Dylan Heald also scored for the Eagles during the stretch.

The Eagles took their first lead of the game at the 12:15 mark in the second as Meier scored his second goal of the game. Wilmington answered back with three straight goals before Meier and Kelleher scored the final two goals of the half with the Eagles a man up as the teams went into the half tied, 9-9.

The Wildcats went up 14-11 in the third at the 5:28 mark, but the Eagles again were able to cut the deficit to 14-13 after Carlos Chacua and Heald both scored in the final 1:23. Kelleher and Meier also added to their goal total in the third.

However, in the fourth, the Eagles were a little unlucky having two shots hit the crossbar and post and scoring just once – by Meier – as Wilmington was able to hold on.

Manuele D'Alessio had six saves in net for the Eagles.

Justin Nogueira and Dante Cleare each won eight faceoffs for the Eagles.

Post opens up its home schedule, as it hosts Felician at 3 p.m. on April 13.
