The Post University softball team used two big seventh innings and swept the Chestnut Hill Griffins, 9-1 and 8-5 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader.
In game two, the Eagles trailed 5-3 heading into the top of the seventh before senior Demi Rivera led off the inning with a pinch-hit solo home run to make it a 5-4 game. After freshman Lily Tomasiello walked and stole second, Bailee Zaccaro hit an RBI single to tie the game at 5-5.
But the big hit came two batters later. After a double from Paige Delier, freshman Caitlin Deangelis hit a three-run homer to center field to give the Eagles the 8-5 lead.
The Eagles struck first in the top of the first on an RBI single by Zaccaro. Cassidy Petrie made it a 2-0 game with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth.
After the Griffins tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth, Tomasiello gave the Eagles the lead again in the top of the fifth with a solo homer to make it a 3-2 Eagles lead.
Chestnut Hill took the 4-3 lead on a Nadine Arredondo single in the bottom of the fifth and added one more run in the bottom of the sixth before the Eagles big rally in the seventh.
Zaccaro finished the game 4-for-4 with two RBI and a run. DeAngelis drove in three runs. Rivera went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI.
In game one, after a pitchers' duel through the first six innings, the Eagles erupted for eight runs in the top of the seventh inning.
After the first three batters reached base with no outs in the top of the seventh, Allyson Wallauer hit an RBI single to give the Eagles the 2-1 lead. Courtney Brobst followed with an RBI single of her own to make it a 3-1 game. After Rianne Mayer's fielder's choice plated a run, Skylar Devorin hit a two-run single to put the game out of reach, making it a 6-1 game.
Samantha Riccardulli added an RBI single and Petrie had an RBI groundout in the inning as well.
The Eagles scored first in the second inning on an RBI single from Riccardulli. Chestnut Hill tied the game in the fifth.
Bridget Betley earned the complete game win, striking out eight, allowing just one earned run.
Riccardulli went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run. Zaccaro was 2-for-3 with a run. Brobst was 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Up next, the Eagles go on the road and take on Jefferson at noon on March 27th in a CACC doubleheader.
