Softball Drops Two Close Games To Jefferson

Philadelphia, Pa. - After coming back from early three-run deficits, the Post University softball team dropped two games to Jefferson, 4-3 and 5-3 on Saturday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader.

The Eagles are now 2-2 on the season.

In game one, after falling behind 3-0 after the third inning, Allyson Wallauer hit a two-run homer to right field that plated Bailee Zaccaro to make it a 3-2 game in the top of the fourth inning. The next batter, freshman Caitlin DeAngelis followed with her second home run of the season, a solo homer to left field to tie the game.

The two teams would remain scoreless for the next three innings before going into extra innings before Jefferson's Winnai Hoyt hit a walk-off RBI triple to give the Rams the win.

DeAngelis finished the game 3-for-3 with a run and RBI. Zaccaro finished the game 2-for-4 with a run.

Starting pitcher Demi Rivera struck out four in six innings for the Eagles.

After falling behind 3-0 in the first inning of game two, the Eagles got themselves on the board with an RBI sac fly from Brittany Giordano that scored Juliana Rigano to make it a 3-1 game in the top of the second.

Rigano scored her second run of the game after a fielder's choice by Skylar Devorin and a throwing error by the Rams to make it a 3-2 game in the top of the fourth.

With one out in the seventh, Kasey Jusino hit a solo homer to left to tie the game at 3-3, her first home run of the season.

However, in the bottom of the seventh, Hoyt singled to lead off the inning before Emily Akelaitis hit a walk-off two-run homer to give the Rams the 5-3 win.

Zaccaro had two more hits for the Eagles in game two.

Up next, the Eagles will play its first home games of the season in a doubleheader against Caldwell on April 7, beginning at 3 p.m.
