South Burlington, VT – Four different Eagles scored as the Post University women's hockey team defeated Saint Michael's College, 4-2 on Friday evening.
With the win, the Eagles are now 3-13 on the season.
Post scored two goals in the first period. On the opening goal, the Purple Knights turned the puck over in the slot. Paige Anger made a touch pass to Jade Giesbrecht who took a shot from the left hash mark to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead at the 4:45 mark for her first career goal.
Holly Kubichek gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead at the 9:40 mark as she took a shot from almost behind the net, and banked the shot off of Saint Michael's goaltender, Carissa Mudrak into the net for her first goal of the season.
After the Purple Knights scored their first goal of the game at the 3:09 mark in the second period, Sadie Storm responded with her first goal of the season, banking in a goal off of Mudrak's back from behind the right Post to make it a 3-1 post lead at the 14:21 mark in the second.
The Purple Knights again cut the deficit to 3-2 at a goal at the 2:41 mark of the third, but the Eagles would shut the door at the 14:08 mark on a power play as Kiersten Browning took a pass from Julia Wysocki and slipped in a shot inside the left post to give Post the final tally of the game. It was Browning's third goal of the season, tying her for the team lead.
Jenna Abeyta added two assists on the day.
Kristin Smith won her second game of the season, both against Saint Michael's, stopping 29 shots. It was her second highest save total of the season.
Wysocki won eight faceoffs for the Eagles. She also led the Eagles with five shots on goal.
The two teams meet again on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Saint Michael's.
