Waterbury, Conn. – Five players scored in double figures as the Post University men's basketball team pulled away in the second half in an 82-70 win over American International College (AIC) on Wednesday evening at the Drubner Center.
The win was the first home victory for the Eagles, who now sit at 3-4 on the season.
Both teams played a very tight first half with no one holding a lead bigger than five points.
The Eagles hit nine threes in the first half, including three straight from Cape Holden to end the half. His final three gave the Eagles a 40-39 lead before the Yellow Jackets tied the game 40-40 going into the break.
Abdul-Basit Ajia hit two threes, as did David Jasson and Jordan Williams in the first half.
The Eagles ran out to a 52-44 lead just over four minutes into the second half behind four points from Devonte McCall and three-pointers by Kyle Alcy and Isaiah Holmes.
After the Yellow Jackets cut the score down to 57-54 a three by Jasson sparked a 15-4 run for the Eagles book ended by a three from Derrick Thomas II.
The Eagles would go up by as much as 16 points at 75-59 after Thomas II was fouled shooting a three-pointer. He would make all three. The Eagles would lead by double digits the rest of the way.
Jasson finished with a team-high 16 points. Thomas II finished with 13 points. McCall had 15 points. Holmes had ten points to go with seven rebounds. Ajia had ten points to go with eight rebounds.
Post hit 15 threes on the night, a season high.
The Eagles open up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play as they go on the road to play Bloomfield on Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
