Men’s Basketball Tops Bloomfield In CACC Opener

Bloomfield, N.J.– Three Eagles scored in double figures as the Post University men's basketball team won its opening Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game, a 71-65 victory over Bloomfield on Tuesday evening.

It was the second straight win for the Eagles who now sit at 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the CACC.
Devonte McCall, D.J. Frechette and David Jasson each scored 15 points apiece.

Post scored the first five points of the game, including a three from Jasson.
The two teams played a tight first eight minutes of the game before the Eagles went on a 10-1 run to extend its lead to 25-14 spearheaded by three-pointers from Jasson and Frechette.

After Bloomfield cut the game to a 32-28 Eagles lead, Post scored the next six points, four of them on buckets by McCall to give Post a 38-28 lead. They would take a 40-33 lead into halftime.

McCall had 12 points in the first half, while Jasson had 11 on 3-for-5 shooting from three.

The Eagles withstood an opening 9-0 run from Bloomfield which saw the Bears take their only lead of the game at 42-40 at the 18:15 mark of the second half. A three from Frechette gave the Eagles back the lead 43-42 at the 17:57 mark.

With the game tied at 47-47 at the 14:36 mark, the Eagles rattled off the next 14 points as six different Eagles had baskets, including threes from McCall and Elijah Bull to give Post the 61-47 lead with 6:44 remaining.

Bloomfield rallied to cut the gap to 66-62 with 44 seconds left. The Eagles would hit five of their six free throws down the stretch.

Jordan Williams led the Eagles with ten rebounds to go along with seven points. The Eagles dominated the rebounds, outrebounding the Bears, 53-38. Abdul-Basit Ajia had six points and eight rebounds. Isaiah Holmes had a game-high seven assists to go along with seven rebounds and four points.

It was the third straight win against Bloomfield for the Eagles.

The Eagles head on to Saint Michael's for their next game on December 12 at 2 p.m. for a non-conference road tilt.
