Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team lost a heartbreaking 91-90 overtime game to Bentley on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference tilt at the Drubner Center.
With the loss, the Eagles are now 4-6 on the season, while the Falcons move to 7-2.
With the game tied at 88, Post's Devonte McCall hit a turnaround jumper in the lane to give the Eagles a 90-88 lead with two seconds left.
On the ensuing possession, Bentley's Pete Blust threw a homerun pass to Mason Webb, who hit a three as the buzzer sounded to give the Falcons the win.
McCall finished the day with 31 points, eight rebounds and three blocks for the Eagles.
Post never led in the second half and trailed by as much as 11 at 56-45 at the 15:57 mark. The Eagles would fight their way back, chipping at the deficit and finally tying the game up on two free-throws by Jordan Williams at the 2:01 mark. After a jumper from Bentley's Jordan Mello-Klein, the Eagles answered with a layup from D.J. Frechette.
After one final basket by the Falcons at the 1:10 mark, McCall would hit two free throws with 48 seconds left, sending the game into overtime
In overtime, the Eagles would strike first on a layup and free throw from Frechette to give the Eagles an 81-78 lead. After a three from Mello-Klein, Isaiah Holmes hit a jumper to put Post back up two. The Falcons answered with a bucket of their own before Frechette hit a three to give Post an 86-83 lead with 2:57 remaining.
Bentley - ranked third in the East Region - tied the game at the 1:50 mark, but was answered by another jumper from Holmes to make it an 88-86 Post lead. Mello-Klein would make another layup to tie it at 88-88, setting up the dramatic finish.
In the first half, the Eagles led by as much as four early on before the Falcons took a 41-33 lead at the 4:23 mark. The Eagles would finish on a 10-3 run as Bentley led at half 44-43. During the run, Holmes hit two threes.
Holmes finished the game with 16 points and six assists. Frechette had 19 points and four rebounds. David Jasson had 11 points.
The Eagles shot 45 percent from three (9-for-20).
Zach Laput led Bentley in scoring with 22 Points. Mello-Klein had 17 and Webb, 15.
