Waterbury, Conn. - Devonte McCall scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds, but the Post University men's basketball team lost its home opener, 76-69 to Bridgeport on Tuesday evening at the Drubner Center.
The Eagles are now 2-3 on the season.
Post jumped out to a 6-2 lead early, after three-pointers from
David Jasson and
Isaiah Holmes to start the game.
The Purple Knights went on a 20-3 run to take a 22-9 lead before the Eagles cut their deficit back to two points after a 13-2 run of their own.
During the run,
Cape Holden and McCall each hit a three, along with baskets from
Abdul-Basit Ajia, Jasson and
Kyle Alcy.
Bridgeport went into the half with a 39-31 lead. The Eagles hit five threes in the half.
After falling behind 46-34 in the first 1:14 of the second half, the Eagles fought back to within two points at 50-48 behind threes from
Elijah Bull and Holden.
The Purple Knights again increased its lead to double digits at 67-55 with 6:27 remaining, and again the Eagles rallied to within four points on five points from McCall and three from Holden.
It was as close as the Eagles got the rest of the way as Bridgeport thwarted any rally.
Holden finished with nine points. Jasson and Ajia each had eight points. Ajia also had eight rebounds.
Up next, the Eagles will play host to Stonehill at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27.
Mason Williams led Bridgeport with 18 points on four threes. Ryo Kobayashi had 12 points, oging 4-for-8 on threes.
