Hot Shooting From Jasson Leads Men’s Basketball Over Mercy

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – The Post University men's basketball team won its second straight game behind 22 points from David Jasson in a 73-62 win over Mercy on Wednesday evening in a non-conference match.

Jasson shot 8-for-14 overall and 6-for-10 from three on the evening including hitting five of his threes in the first half.

With the Eagles (2-1) trailing 20-17 with 6:38 remaining in the first half, the Eagles went on an 11-2 run to take a 28-22 lead as Jasson and Kyle Alcy combined for all the points during the run. They would go up by as much as seven points at 33-26 in the first half before taking a 35-32 lead into halftime.

After the Mavericks took a 39-37 lead after going on a small 7-2 run to begin the second half, threes from D.J. Frechette and Jasson put the Eagles back up 43-39, a lead they would never relinquish.

The Eagles would lead by as much as 16 points on multiple occasions in the half as the Mavericks never threatened over the last 12 minutes of the game. Devonte McCall, the reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Defensive Player of the week scored all 11 of his points in the second half on 5-for-7 shooting.

The Eagles finished with nine threes in the game.

Abdul-Basit Ajia had ten points and six rebounds. Frechette and Alcy both finished with nine points. McCall led the Eagles with nine rebounds.

Jayden Dewaal led the Mavericks (0-1) with 19 points and 12 rebounds. The Eagles defense held Mercy to 39.4 percent shooting.

The Eagles head to Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, November 20 at 3:30 p.m. in a non-conference game for their next game.
