McCall Scores Career High As Post Men’s Basketball Wins First Game Of The Season

Bridgeport, Conn.  Devonte McCall scored a career-high 34 points as the Post University men's basketball team defeated Bridgeport 89-86 in overtime on Sunday afternoon at the University of Bridgeport.

With the win, the Eagles are now 1-1 on the season.

The Eagles, who lost their first game of the season on Saturday, rallied from a 74-65 deficit in the final four minutes of the second half.

The rally started with four free throws frim Abdul-Basit Ajia and D.J. Frechette, followed by a layup from McCall and a three from Frechette to cut the Eagles deficit to 75-74.

After a free throw from the Knights made it a 76-74 game with 1L28 left, McCall made a layup, got fouled and made the free throw to give the Eagles their first lead in the second half.

Bridgeport's Ryo Jobayashi hit a three to give the Knights a 79-77 lead at 19 seconds before a jumper from Isaiah Holmes tied the game with four seconds left and sending the game into overtime.

In overtime, with the Owls down 86-84 with 1:10 left, a layup from Ajia and a steal and layup from Holmes sealed the win for the Eagles.

In a tight first half, no one led by more than six points as the Knights took a 42-37 lead into the break.

David Jasson had eight points in the first half, while Tyler Small had six points.

Ajia had 14 reboundson the day, while Frechette had 16 points and Holmes, 12.

Up next, the Eagles will play at Mercy at 7 p.m. on November 17.
