Waterbury, Conn. – Behind 14 kills and four service aces from
Madelynn Boop, the Post University women's volleyball team closed out its regular season with its second straight win in a 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-17) win over Chestnut Hill in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match on Thursday afternoon at the Drubner Center.
The Eagles finish the regular season at 10-19 and 7-10 in the CACC.
The Eagles never trailed in the first set, scoring the first four points, with kills coming from
Aniya Goodman, Boop and
Kaitlyn Lemmon. The Eagles led by as much as five points at multiple occasions during the set, including at 23-18 before the Griffins scored five straight points and tied the game at 23-23. The teams would then exchange the next two points, but the Eagles scored the final two points before
Datari Mathis finished the set with a kill.
During set two, with the match tied, 11-11, the Eagles ran off a 9-2 run on two kills from Goodman, and kills from Boop and
Lydimar Soto as the Eagles took a 20-13 lead. The Griffins rallied, and trimmed the Eagles lead to 24-21, but a service error from the Griffins gave the Eagles the set.
Chestnut Hill jumped out to a 5-2 lead before the Eagles scored the next three to tie the match up on a kill from Mathis and an ace by Boop. The teams again battled to an 11-11 tie until the Eagles went on an 8-3 run to take the lead for good at 19-14 and closed out the match with a service error and an attack error from the Griffins.
With the win, the Eagles clinched the third spot in the CACC North Division and will take on the No. 2 seed in the South, Wilmington at 6 p.m. on November 16 on the road in the CACC Quarterfinals.
