Game Recap: #21 Men's Soccer |

Scarpecci’s Goal Lifts Men’s Soccer To Upset Over No. 9 Wilmington

Waterbury, Conn. – Giorgio Scarpecci scored a goal in the 76th minute, as the Post University men's soccer team upset No. 9 Wilmington, 1-0 in a highly-competitive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match on Saturday afternoon at LaMoy Field.

The win puts the Eagles at 3-5-1 overall and 3-2 in the CACC. It was the first loss for Wilmington on the season, who now sits at 10-1-1 overall.

With the Eagles dominating the pace throughout the game, the Eagles were able to get on the board as Carles Aliberch passed the ball to a streaking Sergio Diaz whose shot was stopped by Wilmington goalkeeper Konstantinos Parisis. However, the rebound came to Scarpecci – who had just come in the game for the first time - and he put away his first goal of the season. It was his first goal since his two goals in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament against Millersville.

The Eagles defense was stingy all day, allowing just one shot on goal to the Wildcats. It was the first win over the Wildcats since the 2018 CACC Championship game.

Post had four shots on goal to Wlimington's one.

"Today our attitude, work rate, and performance were absolutely fantastic," head coach Ted Haley said. "We finally looked like the Sweet 16 team of 2019 so I am very proud of my guys and our staff. Character is created when things are tough and we showed great character in beating a nationally ranked top 10 team. Now we have set the standard as to what each match should look like and I can't wait to get back to training with the team to prepare for Wednesday's match".

Up next, the Eagles host Nyack at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13 in a CACC match.
