Shelton, Conn. – The Post University men's hockey team scored two early goals, but ultimately fell, 3-2 to Johnson on Wales in its 2021-2022 home opener Saturday evening at The Rinks at Shelton.
The Eagles opened up the scoring at the 4:50 mark of the first period, as John Krapian put a rebound home off a shot from Kieran Gardner to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead.
Just over six minutes later, Michael Karas put the Eagles up 2-0. After a shot from Brandon Crowther went off of goalie Jaxon Friedman, Karas found the loose puck and hit a slap shot home past Friedman as the Eagles took the two-goal lead into the second period.
The Wildcats answered with two goals in the second period as Breck Crawford and Kodie Legassie scored for them.
In the third, after a slashing penalty on a breakaway, the Wildcats were awarded a penalty shot, which Adam Krofchalk put home to give Johnson & Wales the 3-2 lead, which they would hold the rest of the way.
Brandon Brown had 24 saves in net for the Eagles. Gardner and Evan Lugo led the Eagles in shots with three. Krapian won 13 faceoffs.
Up next, the Eagles will play at Westfield state on Nov. 2 at 7:35 p.m. in a non-conference match.
