Waterbury, Conn. – Kaitlyn Sharkey had 14 kills for the women's volleyball team, but the Eagles lost to Georgian Court, 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-21) on Friday at the Drubner Center in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match.
The Eagles are now 8-16 overall and 5-7 in the CACC.
After falling behind, 8-6, the Eagles scored the next five points, on five kills to take an 11-8 lead.
Aniya Goodman had two kills during the stretch. The Lions would take the lead back at 17-15 before the Eagles scored four straight points, taking a 19-17 lead, thanks in large part to two aces from
Colleen Romero. However, the Lions would go on an 8-5 run to close the set.
In set two, the Eagles jumped out to a 10-8 lead, but the Lions scored the next ten points to take command of the match. The Eagles pulled to 23-19 on a kill by Sharkey, but the Lions were able to put the set away in the end.
The final set was a back and forth affair as no one led by more than three points until the final point of the match as Georgian Court (20-7, 11-4 CACC) scored the final three points to take the set and match.
Lydimar Soto had seven kills in the final set.
Soto finished with ten kills. Goodman had five. Romero had a game-high 27 assists to go along with three digs.
Nelly Diaz had 13 digs to lead all players.
Up next, the Eagles are on the road for a CACC North matchup with Bloomfield at 7 p.m. on Nov. 2.
