Post Women’s Hockey Leads Early, But Fall To Sacred Heart In NEWHA Play

Shelton, Conn. – The Post University women's hockey team held an early lead, but ultimately fell to Sacred Heart in a New England Women's Hockey Alliance clash on Friday at The Rinks at Shelton.

Post opened up the scoring at the 6:22 mark of the first period as Catherine Proulx scored her first goal of the season, taking a backhanded pass from Julia Wysocki that slid right past the crease to Proulx who easily put it home to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead.

The Pioneers answered with a goal from Katie Keenan at the 9:11 mark of the first. Both teams would go into the first intermission tied, 1-1.

Sacred Heart opened up the scoring in the second period with three more goals from three different players. They'd add a final goal from Cassandra Nevers in the third. The Pioneers had five different goal scorers on the day.

In net, Kaitlyn Daly stopped 45 shots.

The Eagles edged out the Pioneers in faceoffs, 28-27, with Madison Turley leading the way with nine and Jade Giesbrecht with eight.

Proulx and Jenna Abeyta each led the Eagles with three shots on goal.

The two teams will meet on Saturday, with Sacred Heart playing the role of host at 8:30 p.m. at The Rinks at Shelton.
