Philadelphia, Pa. – The Post University women's volleyball team lost a five-set match to University of the Sciences, 3-2 (23-25, 25-17, 25-17, 19-25, 15-12).
Madelynn Boop led the way for the Eagles with 12 kills.
Lydimar Soto and
Jayda Roman had eight apiece.
The first set was a game of runs as the Eagles took an early 11-6 lead before the Devils scored the next six to take a 12-11 lead. Post took an 18-14 lead behind two aces from
Kim Buttery and kills from
Aniya Goodman and Soto. After the Eagles took a 23-18 lead, the Devils again stormed back to make it a 24-23 Post lead, before Boop ended the set with a kill.
The Devils took control of set two early, taking a 15-8 lead before the Eagles scored the next four points to cut their deficit to 15-12. However, it would be as close as they would get as USciences finished on a 10-5 run to close out.
Set three started out with a 6-2 lead for the Devils. Post closed the gap and was just behind one at 7-6 after, but USciences scored the next four points and take command of the set the rest of the way. Soto had three of her kills in the set.
In set four, the Eagles held a 10-8 lead before rattling off a 9-2 run, capped by back-to-back aces from
Elizabeth McGrath to make it a 19-10 game. The Devils would get no closer than five points the rest of the way.
Niah Messidor had two kills in the set for the Eagles.
USciences opened up the final set, 7-2, but the Eagles (8-14, 5-5 CACC) rallied for the next four points, including two on kills from Roman to make it a 7-6 game. The Devils jumped back out to a 13-8 lead, and again the Eagles would rally for the next three points on two kills from
Mikayla McLeod and an ace from
Nelly Diaz. But the Devils would hold on scoring two of the final three points.
The Eagles had 49 kills as a team. Diaz finished with 24 digs to lead all players.
McLeod had six kills, while Goodman finished with five.
Up next, the Eagles will play at Dominican on Wednesday, October 27 at 7 p.m. Post won their first match on September 24
th against the Chargers, 3-2.
