Waterbury, Conn. – Freshman William Nordkvist scored his first career hat trick, all in the second half as the Post University men's soccer team upset No. 21 Georgian Court, 4-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match at LaMoy Field, handing the Lions their first loss of the season.
It was the second win this season for the Eagles against a Top 25 team, as they took down No. 9 Wilmington earlier in the season. It is also the fourth straight win for the Eagles.
After going down at halftime, 1-0, the Eagles put the pressure on early and often in the second half. Nordkvist would net his first goal when Sergio Diaz found him streaking down the field with his defender draped on him. Nordkvist gathered, made a move past Lions' goalkeeper, Gianluca Cersosimo and put the ball into an open net to tie the game at 1-1 in the 51st minute.
Just 48 seconds later, Nordkvist struck again, taking a 20 yard pass from Davide Mazza, sprinting past his defender and striking it to the upper left corner of the box from just outside the box to give the Eagles the 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute.
Nordkvist's third goal came in the 81st minute as he fought for position with his defender while sprinting down the field, taking a shot that deflected off a defender from 20 yards out and putting it away for the hat trick.
Nordkvist has four goals in his last two games. He also scored the game-winner in the second overtime in a 3-2 win at Holy Family on October 16.
Diaz would tack on his fourth goal of the season in the 90th minute, breaking away from the defense and sprinting 50 yards down the field and beating Cersosimo for the final tally of the game.
It is the second time this season a player has scored a hat trick for the Eagles. Alvaro Sanchez had one against Nyack on October 13.
The Eagles are now 6-5-1 overall and 6-2 in the CACC. They sit in third place. The Lions are 9-1-3 overall and 6-1-1 in the CACC.
Up next, the Eagles will play at Chestnut Hill on October 30 at noon in CACC play.
