Danbury, Conn. – The Post University football team won its first game in school history with a 42-19 win over Western Connecticut State University JV, 42-19 on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles got on the board less than two minutes into the game on a five play, 60-yard drive capped off with a touchdown by Robert Salas to give the Eagles the 7-0 lead.
It wouldn't take long for the Eagles to extend the lead, as Broghean McGovern found James Reyes for a 23-yard touchdown and giving the Eagles a 14-0 lead, one they would take into the second quarter.
Post would take a 21-13 lead into the half after a short TD run from Salas, for his second of the game.
Western Connecticut cut its deficit to 21-19, but the Eagles stopped the two-point conversion at the goal line to hold the lead.
On the ensuing drive, McGovern found Nick Wright for a 37-yard strike to make it a two-score game at 28-19.
The Eagles closed out the third with McGovern sneaking in for a touchdown, putting the game out of reach at 35-19.
Post would tack on one more TD in the fourth for the final tally of the game.
Up next, the Eagles will host Milford Academy at 6 p.m. on October 30 at Municipal Stadium.
