Rotunno Sets School Record With Three Homers Against UPJ As Softball Wins Two

Auburndale, Fla. -  Senior Brianna Rotunno hit a school record three home runs as part of a 5-2 win over the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown in the first of two games for the Post University softball team. In its second game, the Eagles topped American International College, 13-5 behind a 3-for-4 performance from senior Skylar Devorin.

In the win over UP-J, the Eagles fell behind 1-0 in the first before sophomore Bailee Zaccaro hit her first home run of the season to tie the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the first.

The bottom of the second inning is where the fireworks began for Rotunno, hitting a solo home run to right field to give Post the 2-1 lead.

It was more of the same in the third for Rotunno. After sophomore Paige Delier started a rally with a two-run single, Rotunno followed with her second home run of the game, this one to left field to give the Eagles a 4-2 lead.

Behind the pitching of sophomore Leigha Goldsack and junior Demi Rivera, the Eagles were able to shut down the Mountain Cats the rest of the way.

Rotunno added the cherry on top to her special day, hitting a solo shot to left for the game's final run. She finished the game going 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBI.

In the win over AIC, the Eagles jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and were never threatened.

Post scored two runs in the first on RBI singles by Demi Rivera and freshman Samantha Riccardulli to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Post scored on a benefit of a Yellow Jackets error in the second to make it a 3-0 game before opening up the floodgates in the third.

Junior Brittany Giordano hit an RBI single to drive in sophomore Allyson Wallauer to make it a 4-0 game. With two outs in the inning and runners at first and second, Devorin hit a double to score Riccardulli and Giordano to make it a 6-0 game.

The Eagles scored one more run in the fourth and fifth, thanks to a solo homer from Demi Rivera and an error off the bat of Devorin that plated Giordano to make it an 8-1 game.

Post put the game away in the sixth inning on a two-run single from sophomore Sydney Jones, and an RBI single from Devorin and an error from AIC that led to a run.

The Eagles will play Quincy at 10 a.m. and Concord at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
