Springfield, Mass. – Freshman Athlyn Wood scored three goals, and sophomore Morgan Cassiliano scored two, but the Post University women's lacrosse dropped a tight 11-9 match to American International College (AIC) on Saturday.
The Eagles jumped out of the gates early, scoring three straight goals to open the game, the first from Wood just 49 seconds in. Cassiliano would score the next two at 22:14 and 20:46 mark to give Post the 3-0 lead.
The Yellow Jackets scored the next seven goals, two from Molly Leavitt to take a 7-3 lead with 6:40 remaining in the first.
Senior Jaylene Souto – who was coming off a seven-goal performance in her last game – scored followed by a second goal from Wood to make it a 7-5 game at halftime.
AIC opened up the second half with three straight goals to make it a 10-5 game, but freshman Cara DiStefano (13:50) and Wood (11:15) each scored to cut the deficit to 10-7. The Yellow Jackets scored once more, before freshman Hailey McHenry and senior Lauren Chambers each scored a goal a man up to make it an 11-9 game. However, the Eagles were unable to get any closer the rest of the way.
In net, sophomore Christina Badaracco had 13 saves.
The Eagles will play at The College of Saint Rose on Tuesday, March 10 at 3:30 p.m.
