Softball Opens Up Season With Two Wins

Auburndale, Fla. – The Post University softball team won its first two games of the season, defeating Urbana, 6-1 and Bentley, 10-8 on Saturday.

 

In the win over Bentley, the Eagles scored ten runs in the top of the second, highlighted by a three-run homer and a two-run double in the same inning from sophomore Paige Delier.

 

Junior Cassidy Petrie hit a three-run triple while an RBI double from senior Leyri Rivera and RBI singles from junior Brittany Giordano staked the Eagles to the early ten-run lead.

 

The Eagles needed the runs, as Bentley scored five runs in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit in half, then scored two in the bottom of the third and one in the sixth.

 

Sophomore Leigha Goldsack shut the door in the seventh for the Eagles to earn the win. She had four strikeouts in four innings. Junior Bridget Betley had five strikeouts in three innings.

 

Delier finished the game going 3-for-4 with two runs and five RBI. Petrie was 1-for-5 with three RBI.

 

In the first game of the day against Urbana, sophomore Bailee Zaccaro went 2-for-3 with two runs, while sophomore Briana Wilky went 1-for-3 with two RBI in the win.

 

After Urbana homered in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead, the Eagles scored three in the bottom of the inning. The first on an RBI single from sophomore Kasey Jusino to score Petrie and a wild pitch from Urbana that scored Zaccaro and Jusino to make it a 3-1 game. Jusino scored on another wild pitch in the fifth, and Wilky sealed the game with a two-run single.

 

Senior Brianna Koref pitched a complete game, giving up just one run while striking out two.

 

The Eagles will take on Glenville State at 10 a.m. and Hillsdale at noon on Sunday.
