Lake Worth, Fla. – The Post University baseball team erupted for eight runs in the eighth inning as the Eagles topped the 20th ranked (nationally) New York Tech Bears, 9-1 in their first game of their spring break trip.
The big rally started with two outs in the inning, as junior Devon Ogston got the Eagles on the board with a single to drive in Kwan Jones who was pinch running for senior Tyler Melko, who walked. Post would take advantage of an error off the bat of freshman Thomas DiRusso to take the lead before senior Michael Munson drove in Ogston with a single.
With the bases loaded, the Eagles blew the game open as junior Brycin Hernandez doubled to clear the bases to make it a 6-1 game. Alex Olsen would then drive in sophomore Christian Aliberti and Hernandez to cap the eight-run rally. The Eagles – ranked seventh in the East - would tack on one more run in the ninth on an RBI single by freshman Rian Balbino.
Junior Noah Meeks had another quality start on the mound, pitching eight innings, allowing just six hits and an earn run to up his record to 2-0 on the season.
Hernandez finished the game 2-for-6 with three RBI and a run. Olsen was 3-for-5 with two runs.
The Eagles are now 7-4 overall and 7-1 in the East Region.
Up next, the Eagles play American International College at noon on Thursday.
