South Burlington, Vt. – Freshman Jenna Abeyta scored her team-leading 17th goal, but the Post University women's hockey team allowed a late goal to Saint Michael's in a 2-1 loss in a New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) game on Saturday afternoon.
Post is now 11-20 overall and 1-16 in NEWHA play.
Abeyta's goal came at the 13:40 mark in the third period. With the Eagles down 1-0, freshman Mia Landry fed Abeyta from neutral ice to the slot and put the pucks between the legs of goalie, Vika Simons tied the game, 1-1.
Less than a minute later, however, Saint Michael's (5-17-4, 4-12-1 NEWHA) Ella Saracco rebounded a saved shot to give the Purple Knights the lead for good at 14:25 in the third.
Senior Jenna Baumgartner stopped 32 shots in net for the Eagles. Abeyta led all Eagles in shots on goal with eight.
The two teams will meet again at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday.
