Waterbury, Conn.- The Post University men's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaker to St Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) during a cold, snowy afternoon on Saturday. The Eagles fell, 9-8.
After STAC got off to an early 3-0 lead, Eagles freshman
Ryan Baker scored his first of two goals with an assist from junior
Mark Colella at the 4:26 mark of the second quarter. Three minutes later freshman
Brendan Kelleher took a pass from junior
Carlos Chacua and scored a goal to cut the lead to 3-2 heading into the second half.
To open the second half, Chacua passed the ball to freshman
Nick Meier who found the net to tie the game, 3-3. After giving up a STAC goal, freshman
Nicholas Steele, Kelleher, Baker, and Colella all found the net in the third quarter bumping the Eagles to a 7-4 lead.
From that point on, STAC would net three unanswered goals before Post freshman
Quran Langston scored the last goal of the day for Post. STAC scored 2 more goals in the fourth quarter to win the game 9-8
Sophomore
Dante Cleare won 12 of 19 face-offs for the Eagles while Baker and Kelleher led the team with two goals each. Chacua had three assists on the day.
In the net, senior goalie
Manuele D'Alessio had 13 saves for the Eagles.
The Spartans were led by senior Tyler Senators who scored four goal. Senior Anthony Irizarry and freshman Timothy Zimnoch each found the net twice. Zimnoch also led the Spartans with two assists. The Spartans got their second win in a row, to improve their record to 2-2 on the season.
The Eagles (0-4), will get back to action on March 4th, when they travel to Assumption college to take on the Greyhounds at 7 p.m.
