Murfreesboro, N.C. – Freshman Nick Meier scored two goals for the Post University men's lacrosse team, but the Eagles fell, 17-7 in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon to Chowan.
Post took the early lead at the 10:40 mark after Quran Langston beat a defender behind the net and scored past Chowan goalie Slater Bender to put Post up, 1-0.
Chowan responded with four straight goals, two from Jackson Downs to take a 4-1 lead at 12:40 in the second.
With the Eagles up a man, freshman Nicholas Steele took a pass from junior Mark Colella, who was behind the net and fired it from ten yards out past Bender to make it a 4-2 game at 11:12 remaining in the second period.
The Hawks responded less than a minute later, but Colella got in on the scoring on his own taking a pass from junior Justin Nogueria from behind the net, stepping in front and firing home his first goal of the season. Colella had 16 goals last season.
Chowan scored the next four goals to make it a 9-3 game before senior Jake Bova broke the run with an unassisted goal at 3:33 in the third. Including Bova's goal, the Eagles would score three of the next four goals as junior Carlos Chacua and Meier each put in unassisted goals to make it a 10-6 game at the 1:53 mark in the third. The Hawks scored just 17 seconds later before Meier put his second goal home of the game, this time off an assist from Nogueria with one second remaining in the third to make it an 11-7 game.
Chowan, however scored the next six goals to put the game away, the final two from Austin Lee, who scored six goals for the Hawks.
