Lakewood, N.J. – Three players scored in double figures as the Post University men's basketball team downed Georgian Court, 79-66 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) behind a big first-half run.
Senior
D.J. Jarrett led the Eagles with 16 points off the bench in just 18 minutes. Sophomore
Devonte McCall had 13 points and 12 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season.
Post jumped out to a 14-6 lead early behind three-pointers from Jarrett, junior
Darrick Boyd and four points from McCall over the first 4:48 of the half.
After the Lions cut their deficit to 19-16 at the 12:02 mark of the half, the Eagles scored the next 15 points over the next 5:03 of the game to take a 34-16 lead. Jarrett and sophomore
D.J. Frechette each hit a three during the stretch, as six different Eagles contributed in the scoring column during the early decisive run.
The Eagles would take a 46-28 lead at the half as Frechette closed out the first 20 minutes with his second three of the game with 34 seconds left before halftime.
Post took its first 20-point lead of the game just 25 seconds into the second half as a block from Boyd led to a dunk from McCall to make it a 48-28 game. The Lions cut it to a 14-point game on a bucket from Justin Figueroa at 51-37, before the Eagles went on a brief 8-1 run to take its biggest lead of the game at 59-38 after a three-pointer from Jarrett.
Georgian Court wouldn't be able to get any closer than 12 points the rest of the way as senior
Savion Boissard scored 11 points in the second half on 4-for-8 shooting to keep the Lions at bay. Boissard finished with 15 points and four rebounds.
Behind Jarrett, the Eagles bench outscored Georgian Court's, 28-13. The Eagles also dominated in the paint, outscoring the Lions, 40-22.
Matt Ringel had a double-double for the Lions, scoring 18 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor chipped in with 16 points and went 10-for-11 from the free-throw line.
The Eagles are now 7-0 all-time against Georgian Court. The Eagles are now 17-8 overall and 11-5 in the CACC and sit in second place in the North Division.
