Auburn, Ma. – A third period goal from junior
William Francis helped lift the Post University men's hockey team to a 3-2 win over Anna Maria in a non-conference game on Tuesday evening.
With the game tied, 2-2 and the Eagles on the power play, Francis took a pass from senior
Tyler Hackett who was behind the net, gathered the puck and caught goalie Julius Huset out of position and scored his fourth goal of the season at the 9:34 mark. The Eagles would hold on the rest of the way for their fifth win of the season.
Post is now 5-17-2 overall.
The Eagles got the scoring going at the 9:02 mark of the first period as a pass from junior
Jake Raleigh kicked off the boards behind the net, off of Huset right to sophomore
Niko Grollman who put it in from close range to put the Eagles up, 1-0. It was Grollman's seventh goal of the season.
Anna Maria tied the game at the 18:20 mark in the first on a goal from Jack Sitzman.
After the Amcats took a 2-1 lead on the power play at the 14:33 mark, junior
Anthony Giacomin streaked down the left side of the ice, and took a pass from Hackett who was skating in from the right side, tying the game at 2-2 at the 18:24 mark. It was Giacomin's seventh goal of the season.
Sophomore
Joseph McLeod had 41 saves on the day, for his first win in net this season.
Hackett's two assists gives him 16 on the season, tying him for fourth in the NE10 with teammate
Evan Lugo. Hackett's 28 points are good enough for third in the conference.
"The guys did a good job adjusting to a small neutral zone and stuck to the changes made between periods. A good team win overall," head coach
Pete Whitney said.
The Eagles will wrap up their regular season schedule on Feb. 14 and 15 with games against Stonehill at 7:40 p.m. and 7:0 p.m., respectively. Both games will be played at Thayer Academy in Braintree, Mass.
