Shelton, Conn. – Freshman Catherine Proulx and junior Paige Dundas each scored a pair of goals as the Post University women's hockey team defeated King's College, 5-1 in a non-conference match at The Rinks at Shelton on Tuesday afternoon.
The win puts the Eagles at 7-14-0 overall.
Both teams seemed to be destined for a scoreless first period until Proulx took a centering pass from classmate Madison Turley to give Post the 1-0 lead with 11 seconds remaining in the period.
At the 1:50 mark in the second period, Proulx and junior Savanna Stevenson found themselves on a 2-on-1 break. Stevenson passed it off to her right and Proulx shot the puck past King's goalie Kiva Sierra Stoltz. It was Proulx's eighth goal of the year, which is second on the team.
After the Monarchs scored at the 11:57 mark in the second, the Eagles again scored a late period goal, this time on a power play as Dundas scored her first of the game, poking home a shot off a rebound from the stick of freshman Eve Lundin to make it a 3-1 game heading into the final period.
Dundas and Lundin teamed up again at the 15:05 mark of the third as Dundas played a pass from behind the net on the goalie's right side and angled a wrist shot in to make it a 4-1 game.
Freshman Mia Landry scored her second goal of the game, taking a pass at the blue line from classmate Sadie Storm, skating up a few feet for a clear shot and ripping the puck past Sierra Stoltz to make it a 5-1 game.
Senior Jenna Baumgartner had 13 saves on the day, and the Eagles outshot the Monarchs, 67-14. Freshman Jenna Abeyta led the Eagles with ten shots.
Up next, the Eagles continue their homestand, as they face Alvernia on Friday (12:30 p.m.) and Saturday (noon) at The Rinks at Shelton.
