Abeyta Sets School Record In Women’s Hockey Win Over Alvernia

Shelton, Conn. – Freshman Jenna Abeyta set a school record, scoring four goals in a 5-2 women's hockey win over Alvernia on Friday evening at The Rinks At Shelton in a non-conference game.

The Eagles now improve their record to 8-14-0 overall, as they won their second straight game.

Abeyta's first goal came with the Eagles down 1-0 as she took a pass from classmate Catherine Proulx off of a faceoff in the zone and slid in a wrist shot past Alvernia goalie Julia Beaven to tie the game, 1-1 at the 10:51 mark of the first period.

Alvernia tacked on one more goal in the final minute from Abby Radcliffe – her second – to give Alvernia the 2-1 lead after the first period.

However, the final two periods belonged to Abeyta, as she tied the game at the 9:46 mark in the second on her own after stealing the puck from Alvernia, spinning near the boards to shed a defender and firing past Beaven to tie the game, 2-2, which the score would remain heading into the third.

Abeyta's hat trick came at the 5:12 mark in the third, this time from distance as Abeyta controlled a loose puck and shot it from in between center ice and the blue line over the right shoulder of Beaven to give Post the 3-2.

Abeyta's final goal came on a breakaway, deking Beaven and backhanding a shot into the net to give Post the 4-2 lead. Abeyta now has 13 goals on the season to lead the team.

Senior Jenna Baumgartner finished with 15 saves in net for the Eagles.

Freshman Victoria Paton would add an empty net goal -  her second of the season -  for the final tally for the Eagles.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday at noon at The Rinks At Shelton.
