Bloomfield, N.J. - After finding itself down big early, the Post University men's basketball team rallied to a big win, defeating Bloomfield 84-69 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate (CACC) game on Wednesday evening.
It was the second straight win for the Eagles, who are now 14-6 overall and 8-3 in the CACC, keeping them in a tie for first in the North Division with Dominican and Caldwell.
The Bears led by as much as 17 points in the first half, taking a 33-16 lead at the 6:11 mark as the Bears hit five three pointers over that time period, including two from Rich Chapman.
The Eagles would rebound in a hurry as sophomore D.J. Frechette hit a three to make it a 33-20 game. After Bloomfield (10-10, 7-6 CACC) responded with a three of their own to push the lead back to 36-20, the Eagles scored the next ten points as seniors Savion Boissard and Marcus Johnson, along with a layup from junior Jonathan Duvivier and two free throws by sophomore Devonte McCall made it a 36-30 game. Bloomfield would up their lead back up to eight at 38-30, but layups from Duvivier and Boissard made it a four-point game at the break at 38-34.
Eight different Eagles scored in the first half, led by senior Darrick Boyd and Boissard with six apiece.
The run kept going in the second half for the Eagles, as they took their first lead since the first basket of the game on a two free-throws from freshman Harrison Warnock to give Post the 41-40 advantage.
After Bloomfield tied the game at 41-41, a jumper from Duvivier, followed by a three from Warnock and a layup from Frechette gave Post a 48-41 lead with 14:14 left. Post increased its lead to 64-52 on a layup from McCall, but the Bears cut the lead down to six at 66-60 at the 4:46 mark. But the Eagles fast-paced offense would score seven points in 33 seconds, including a three from Frechette and a layup from McCall to quickly go back up by 13 points at 73-60 with 3:56 remaining.
Bloomfield cut the Eagles lead to 76-69 after a layup and free throw by Isaiah Sparks with 2:20 remaining, but Boyd hit a dagger of a three-pointer with 1:36 remaining to put the game away for the Eagles as they took the ten-point lead at 79-69.
Frechette led the way for the Eagles with 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting off the bench. McCall had 12 points and nine rebounds. Johnson had eight points and ten rebounds. Boyd had 11 points and Boissard, ten. Warnock scored a career-high nine points, including two threes.
The Eagles turned 21 turnovers into 20, including 14 in the second half. Post had 12 steals, including three each from Boyd and sophomore Isaiah Holmes.
Post also converted 19 offensive rebounds into 18 points.
Chapman had 18 points and ten rebounds for Bloomfield. Safee Abdus-Sabur had 17 points for the Bears.
The Eagles will play at Wilmington on February 2 at 3 p.m.
