Shelton, Conn. – Freshman Victoria Paton scored the game-winning goal for the Post University women's hockey team, as it defeated Anna Maria in a thrilling non-conference match on Friday afternoon at The Rinks at Shelton.
Paton took a rebound off a shot from classmate Jenna Abeyta and stuffed it past Amcats goalkeeper, Julia Smith to give the Eagles their tenth win of the season. It was Paton's third goal of the season.
The goal from Paton wouldn't have been possible without some late heroics in regulation from senior Julia Schatz. With just over a minute remaining in the third period, Schatz took a rebound off a shot from freshman Emily Racco and put it into a wide open net to tie the game at 2-2 and send the game into overtime.
The Amcats got on the board at the 16:37 mark of the first to take a 1-0 lead. The Eagles (10-16-0, 1-12-0 NEWHA) tied it late in the second period as senior Molly Brumfield took a centering pass from freshman Natalie Sammons and scored her third goal of the season to tie the game.
Senior Jenna Baumgartner finished with 13 saves on the day for the Eagles.
The two teams will meet again Saturday, this time at Anna Maria for a 5:20 p.m. puck drop.
