Abeyta, Storm Score Twice As Women’s Hockey Routs Anna Maria

Marlborough, Ma. -  The Post University women's hockey team had its highest goal output of the season, defeating Anna Maria, 8-1 on Saturday evening in a road contest.

It was the second straight win for the Eagles as they have won three of their last four games.

Jenna Abeyta and Sadie Storm each scored a pair of goals.

After falling behind 1-0 after the first period as junior Paige Dundas deflected in a shot from Gwen Lansky to tie the game at 1-1 in the second period.

The Eagles would follow with two straight shorthanded goals, the first from Friday's hero, freshman Victoria Paton who rebounded a shot from classmate Natalie Sammons to give the Eagles the 2-1 lead. Sammons then got in on the scoring herself taking a pass in front of the net from senior Molly Brumfield and scoring past goalie Julia Smith to make it 3-1. Abeyta would then tack on her team-leading 15th goal of the season on a power play, as the Eagles took a 4-1 lead into the third.

Abeyta scored her 16th goal of the season off a centering pass from Paton, making it 5-1 at the 4:45 mark of the third. It is Abeyta's second multi-goal game of the season.

Storm scored her first goal of the game just 35 seconds later as Abeyta made a pass from behind the net to the stick of Storm, who one-timed for her tenth goal of the season. Junior Gwen Lansky and Storm would tack on the final two goals to give the Eagles its biggest win of the season.

Senior Jenna Baumgartner stopped 14 shots in net.

Up next, the Eagles (11-16, 1-12 NEWHA) play a NEWHA game at Sacred Heart at The Rinks at Shelton at noon on January 28.
