Waterbury, Conn. – Junior Darrick Boyd scored 18 points, but the Post University men's basketball team dropped its second straight game in a 91-65 loss to Dominican on Tuesday evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match.
Post now sits at 12-5 overall and 6-3 in the CACC.
The Eagles were held scoreless until the 15:06 mark when sophomore Isaiah Holmes hit a three to cut Dominican's lead to 6-3.
An 8-2 run from Dominican (13-5, 6-3 CACC) gave them a 14-5 lead at the 12:04 mark, but the Eagles responded with a 12-4 run of their own as sophomore D.J. Frechette and senior Marcus Johnson each hit a pair of threes to help the Eagles get back in the game. A three by Dominican's Ethan Smith Jr. at the 6:06 mark put Dominican back up by seven at 27-20, but again the Eagles crept back in with an 8-2 response, with Boyd scoring five of the Post points. Post trailed just 29-28 at the 3:17 mark.
However, the Chargers finished on a 13-2 run, including a layup from Jalen Burgess with two seconds left to give them a 42-29 lead at halftime.
Dominican extended its lead to 19 at 50-32 early in the second half, but the Eagles responded, scoring nine points in a matter of seconds. Freshman Harrison Warnock hit a three, followed by a steal and three from senior D.J. Jarrett to make it a 50-38 game. After a bucket from Dominican's Tedrick Wilcox, sophomore Abdul-Basit Ajia made a free throw after being fouled. Jarrett again would make another steal after the missed free-throw and feed Boyd for the layup to cut the Eagles deficit to 52-41.
It'd be the closest the Eagles would get the rest of the way as Dominican scored the next 16 points to take a 63-41 lead at the 14:16 mark. The Eagles wouldn't get any closer the rest of the way.
Holmes finished with 11 points for the Eagles. Johnson led Post with eight rebounds.
Burgess led five Chargers players in double figures with 20 points while grabbing ten rebounds. Jason Copman had 13 points and ten rebounds.
Up next, Post hosts Chestnut Hill at 3 p.m. on January 25 at the Drubner Center.
