Philadelphia, Pa. – The Post University men's basketball team had its seven-game winning streak snapped after a 73-61 defeat to University of the Sciences on Saturday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
The winning streak was the second-longest streak in school history, as the Eagles – tied for the tenth spot in the East Region rankings - are now 12-5 overall and 6-2 in the CACC, remaining in first-place in the CACC North Division.
Sophomore Devonte McCall led the Eagles with 15 points and 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season.
The first half was tightly-contested, with the biggest lead being a 17-11 in favor of the Devils at the 8:41 mark. Junior Jonathan Duvivier hit a three and sophomore Keandre Fair hit two free-throws to cut the Eagles deficit down to one point just 59 seconds later. The Devils could bump the lead back up to three points at 23-20, but the Eagles answered with the next five points on a jumper and free-throw from McCall and a layup from senior Marcus Johnson to give Post its second lead at the half at 25-23 with 1:33 left. The Devils scored the final five points of the half, including a layup with seven seconds left by Connor Murphy to take a 28-25 lead.
Junior Darrick Boyd scored six of his 14 points in the first half on two three-pointers.
The Devils jumped out to a 37-30 lead in the first few minutes of the second half, but a jumper from senior Savion Boissard and a three from Boyd made it a 37-35 game at the 16:55 mark. USciences scored the next seven points to lead 44-35 before a 9-3 run from the Eagles, sealed by a layup from McCall made it a 47-44 Devils lead.
However, the Devils (4-12, 2-7 CACC) next run of 16-7, including threes from Sean Simon and Paddy Casey gave them a 63-51 lead with 5:25 remaining. The Eagles scored the next five on a jumper from Johnson and a three-pointer from Fair, but it'd be the closest the Eagles would get.
Boyd finished with four three-pointers for the Eagles. Fair had six points, three rebounds and four assists.
Simon led all USciences players in scoring with 19 points, including three three-pointers.
Post looks to start a new winning streak as it hosts Dominican at 7:30 p.m. on January 21 at the Drubner Center.
