Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Baumgartner Has 50 Saves In Women's Hockey Loss To Sacred Heart

Shelton, Conn. – The Post University women's hockey team held an early lead and senior Jenna Baumgartner had 50 saves, but the Eagles lost 3-2 to Sacred Heart in a New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) game on Friday afternoon at The Rinks at Shelton.

The loss moves the Eagles to 9-16-0 overall and 1-12-0 in NEWHA play.

Post took an early 1-0 lead as a breakaway goal from freshman Sadie Storm on a wrist shot put the Eagles up at the 2:45 mark of the first period. It was Storm's ninth goal of the season, tying her for second on the team.

Anna Klein of the Pioneers tied the game on a power play at the 8:35 mark as the two teams would remain tied heading into the second period. Sacred Heart took the lead 3:16 into the second period on a power play goal by Nicole Guidi at the 3:16 mark. The Pioneers would add one more from Maddie Bishop in the second, making it 3-1 heading into the third period.

The Eagles made a valiant against the second-place Pioneers as freshman Catherine Proulx cut the deficit to one, after classmate Victoria Paton slipped an on-the-money centering pass in front of the net as she was being chased down by a defender, directly to Proulx who put it past goalie Frankie Sanchez to make it a 3-2 game.

Baumgartner's 50 saves were her second most this season, behind a 54 save effort against Sacred Heart (12-10-0, 9-2-0 NEWHA) on December 6.

Both teams will meet again Saturday at The Rinks at Shelton at 7:30 p.m., with the Pioneers playing as the hosts.
