Shelton, Conn. – Five goals. Five players. That's how the Post University women's hockey team defeated Lebanon Valley on Tuesday afternoon at The Rinks at Shelton.
The Eagles now move to 9-15 overall.
Post scored three power play goals on the day, the first at the 16:14 mark from freshman Madison Turley to tie the game, 1-1. Turley deflected a slap shot from classmate Jenna Abeyta past goalkeeper, Jill Moffatt.
After a scoreless second period senior Molly Brumfield gave the Eagles their first lead of the game at the 4:36 mark in the third, again with an assist off of an Abeyta slap shot to put the Eagles up, 2-1.
Abeyta got in the scoring action at the 10:57 mark of the third, taking a pass from junior Gwen Lansky, skating into the slot and firing a wrist shot for her team-leading 14th goal of the season.
Lebanon Valley's Chloe Glass would make it a one-goal game at the 11:55 mark, but the Eagles responded less than a minute later as freshman Emily Racco took a pass from junior Kathleen Takita and took a slap shot from close range to make it a 4-2 Eagles lead.
Freshman Sadie Storm tacked on one more insurance goal – her eighth of the season - in the final minute, whipping a shot on a 2-on-2 break away on a pass from senior Kendall Fitzgerald on the power play for the final goal of the game.
Senior Jenna Baumgartner stopped 13 shots in net.
The Eagles have now won three of their last four games and will get back into New England Women's Hockey Alliance action on January 17 as they host Sacred Heart at 2 p.m. to wrap up their five-game homestand.
