Lakewood, N.J. - Sophomore
Demi Rivera (Hazlet, N.J.) came up big in the clutch twice - including the game winning single - as the Post University softball team won its first game in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tournament, 5-4 on Thursday afternoon on the campus of Georgian Court. Post lost its second game to the top-seeded hosts, 10-0.
With the game tied 4-4 heading into the top of the seventh, sophomore
Cassidy Petrie (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit a one-out single to begin the final inning rally. Freshman
Kasey Jusino (Bordentown, N.J.) followed with a productive ground out, advancing Petrie, setting the stage for
Demi Rivera.
Rivera ran the count full then ripped a single to left scoring Petrie putting the Eagles up 5-4. Sophomore
Bridget Betley (Fairfield, N.J.) would shut the door in the bottom of the inning, retiring the Chargers in order for the complete game win.
Rivera's single was her second big hit of the game. After the first two batters were retired, Jusino singled before Rivera ripped the second pitch she saw to right center for an RBI double that scored Jusino, tying the game, 4-4.
Jusino got the fifth seeded Eagles on the board early with an RBI single that scored junior
Leyri Rivera (Dover, N.J.) who led off the game with a single.
Dominican - seeded fourth - scored the next four runs, including three in the bottom of the second as Rajene Bowe and Shailel Kraft each had RBI singles.
With the Chargers up 4-1 in the top of the fourth, the Eagles started their comeback as freshman
Allyson Wallauer (Landenberg, Pa.) hit an RBI single to score
Demi Rivera, who walked to lead off the inning. An error after a flyout from freshman
Rianne Mayer (Berlin, Conn.) scored freshman
Bailee Zaccaro (Levittown, Pa.), who singled after
Demi Rivera's walk.
Demi Rivera finished the game going 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Petrie was 2-for-3 with a run. Jusino was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Betley had one strikeout in her win, and is 8-6 on the season.
In its game against top-seeded Georgian Court, the Eagles just had one hit, by Zaccaro in the 10-0 loss.
Georgian Court's Samantha Reilly had five RBI, including a grand slam that ended the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.
