Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University softball team used a four-run second inning to propel them to a 6-4 game two win over Bloomfield in a split Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at LaMoy Field. Bloomfield won game one, 15-3.
The big second inning started with a walk from sophomore
Demi Rivera (Hazlet, N.J.). Freshman
Bailee Zaccaro (Levittown, Pa.) followed with a single to put runners on first and second with no outs. After a pitching change from the Bears, the Eagles walked three straight times as freshmen
Allyson Wallauer (Landenberg, Pa.),
Rianne Mayer (Berlin, Conn.) and
Sydney Jones (Camden, N.Y.) patience plated two runs. Mayer and Jones each had an RBI with their walk.
A fielder's choice by junior
Leyri Rivera (Dover, N.J.) scored Wallauer and an error from the catcher scored Mayer to give the Eagles a comfortable 4-0 lead.
The Eagles added some insurance in the top of the fourth as
Demi Rivera hit an RBI double to score freshman
Kasey Jusino and (Bordentown, N.J.) and Skyler Devorin.
The Bears scored three runs in the top of the seventh in a rally attempt as Arlene Flores hit a two-run homer, but freshman
Samantha McErlane (Mount Ephraim, N.J.) got the final out in relief, leaving a runner stranded on first.
Sophomore
Bridget Betley (Fairfield, N.J.) got the win for the Eagles, pitching 6.2 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out four.
Demi Rivera finished the game 2-for-3 with a run, two RBI and a walk.
In game two, sophomore
Cassidy Petrie (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit a two run homer for the Eagles in the bottom of the sixth after the Eagles fell behind 15-0.Â
Zaccaro added an RBI single that scored Jusino, who walked.
The Bears scored ten runs in the top of the sixth as Mariah Wysocki had four RBI in the inning. She finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBI. Brianna Johnson finished with the same stat line as Wysocki.
Up next, the Eagles (12-15, 6-8 CACC) take on in-state rival Southern Connecticut State University in a non-conference doubleheader in New Haven on April 11 beginning at 2 p.m.
