Game Recap: Baseball |

12 Run Inning and Shawn Baker’s First Win As An Eagle Highlight Post’s Sweep Of Caldwell

CALDWELL, N.J. - Post University Baseball won their fourth straight game and fifth in their last six games with a two-game sweep of Caldwell University.

A big part of the Eagles' success has been production coming from the top of the order. Travious Ford (.349), Christian Aliberti (.344), Tyler Melko (.396) and Rosario Missiti (.454) bat one through four and have been on fire of late. Ford (10th), Melko (5th) and Missiti (1st) all rank top ten in the CACC for batting average.

In game one, Post started off the first inning by striking early. Travious Ford started the game by working a walk, followed by a Christian Aliberti single and then a Tyler Melko RBI single.

After going 1-2-3 in the top half of the second, Post stormed back to the plate with a massive 12-run third inning.

A booming double off the bat of Ford to left center started things off. After Aliberti reached on an error and Melko walked, the CACC's best hitter, Rosario Missiti, knocked a two RBI single the opposite way to get things started.

Missti, who was named CACC Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, leads the conference in average (.454), RBI (43) and HR (10)

Fresh off a complete game shutout against Wilmington, Matt Goehrig stepped up to the plate after Missiti and crushed a three run home run to left field to put the Eagles up 6-1.

Nick Gastin followed the Goehrig homer by lacing a double down the left field line. Then, Danny Di Marzo got ahold of a pitch and sent one over the left field wall for his second home run of the season.

After singles by John Cartagena and Travious Ford, Christian Aliberti piled onto the Eagles lead with the fourth home run of his freshmen season. The three RBI added to his total of 30 on the season (6th in the CACC).

Post wasted no time adding to their lead with the heart of the lineup coming to the dish.

Next, Melko reached base for the third time in the game and second time in the inning. Then, Missiti rocked a triple to right center field (first triple of 2019) to score Melko from first and extend the lead to 12-1.

The third inning barrage of scoring was capped by a Goehrig RBI single, his fourth RBI in the frame.

Post tacked on four more runs in the seventh inning with a string of hits, walks and sloppy play in the field from Caldwell.

Dan Raglievich did more than enough on the mound, going five strong innings in route to his first win of the season. Raglievich struck out seven cougars while only allowing three hits and one run.

Game two had a much different flow than the first.

A Melko two-out walk in the first helped spark an early rally for the Eagles. Missiti followed with a walk of his own and then a combination of doubles by Nick Gastin and Mike Lisinicchia plated two runs and Post took an early 2-0 lead.

Melko, who leads the team with 17 walks this season, worked three walks in his first three at bats of the game.

Shawn Baker pitched a scoreless first three innings but the Cougars got on the board in the fourth inning with a RBI single, cutting the Eagles lead down to three at 4-1.

The one run would be all that Baker surrendered in six innings of work. Baker struck out four Cougars and collected the first win of his college career. He did a good job of keeping the ball on the ground by inducing nine groundball outs. Baker also showed great command on the mound by allowing no walks on the day.

Brett Pisaneschi earned the save when he came on in the seventh and retired the side in order while striking out two.

The Eagles will look to extend their winning streak on Wednesday when they host Dominican College (17-14, 10-8 CACC, 2nd in CACC North).
