Waterbury, Conn. - Junior
Tyler Melko (Knoxville, Penn.) had a big game one, but the Post University baseball team was swept in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader by Dominican. The Chargers took game one, 11-8 and game two, 7-3.
In game one, the Chargers jumped out to a 7-1 lead after two innings, with the lone Eagles run coming on an RBI double by Melko that scored freshman
Christian Aliberti (Eastchester, N.Y.).
However, the Eagles answered with five-run bottom of the fourth inning as the first three batters reached via single to load the bases for junior
Travious Ford (Greenville, N.C.) who hit a two-run one out single to score freshman
Isaias Guzman (Passaic, N.J.) and senior
John Cartegena Jr. (Danbury, Conn.) to make it a 7-3 game. Alberti followed it up with an RBI single to score sophomore
Danny Di Marzo (Fishkill, N.Y.) before Melko, again came up with the big hit with a two run single to score Aliberti and Ford to make it a 7-6 game.Â
The Chargers scored two more in the top of the fifth and another two in the top of the sixth on a two-run homer from Anthony Bartolomei to make it an 11-8 game.
Post again would rally as Ford, who walked with one out in the inning scored on an error by Bartolomei to make it an 11-7 game. That would put Melko at the plate, who drove his fifth home run of the season over the fence to make it an 11-8 game.
The Eagles rallied one more time in the eighth but didn't get any runs across and left two runners stranded.
Melko finished the game going 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run. Finishing just a triple short of the cycle.
Elijah Tavarez was 2-for-5 with five RBI for the Chargers in the game.
In game two, Di Marzo hit a two-run single for the Eagles, but Dominican jumped out to a 6-0 lead early on in the game highlighted by a four-run second inning
Joshua Colon hit a two run triple followed by an RBI triple from Kennee Torres in the fourth for Dominican.
Sophomore
Matt Goehrig (Clifton, N.J.) added an RBI double for the Eagles in their three-run fourth that scored senior
Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.) to score the Eagles first run of the game.
Junior
Trenton Taylor (Taft, Calif.) struck out four in a complete game for the Eagles.
Up next, the Eagles (15-15, 13-7 CACC) take on Southern Connecticut State University at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
