Waterbury, Conn. - Freshman
Morgan Cassiliano (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored six goals, and classmate
Christina Badaracco (Long Island, N.Y.) had 24 saves, including a clutch one in the final minute as the Post University women's lacrosse team topped Holy Family in a tight 18-17 affair to give the Eagles their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win of the season.
Seniors
Lauren Chambers (Lebanon, Pa.) and
Savannah Schwack (Manorville, N.Y.) had four goals apiece as the win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Eagles (2-8, 1-3 CACC).
With the Eagles up 18-17 with 36 seconds left, Holy Family's Yasmin Machlof took a clear shot at the net, but Badaracco was up to the task, and preserved the win for the Eagles.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the first 9:12, including three goals from Cassiliano who scored the first goal of the game just 52 seconds into the game.
After the Tigers closed the gap to 5-2, Post rattled off three straight goals from three different players to take an 8-2 lead. Schwack (18:11), senior
Aolani Hermosura (Stamford, Conn.) (16:03) and Chambers gave Post a commanding 8-2 lead with 15:04 left.Â
The Eagles increased their lead to 11-3 as Chambers, Schwack and Cassiliano each scored goals before the Tigers finished on a 5-1 run to close the gap to 12-8 heading into the half. Devon Felix, who scored eight goals for Holy Family, scored two goals during the final run in the first half.
The two teams swapped the first three goals of the game as Chambers and Schwack each scored in the first six minutes that put Post up 14-9 with 24:04 remaining.
Felix and Casey Brown each scored for Holy Family to make it a 14-11, but again, the Eagles would extend its lead, as Cassiliano, Junior
Jaylene Souto (Middletown, R.I.) and Schwack made it a 17-11 game with 12:36 game left.Â
However, Holy Family scored four straight goals, including two within 13 seconds as Brown and Felix scored at 9:31 and 9:18, respectively to help close the score to 17-15.Â
Cassiliano would then give the Eagles a little breathing room and insurance with a goal at 5:31 to make it an 18-15 game. It proved large as Brown scored at 3:39 and Machlof scored her second goal of the game with 52 seconds left before Badaracco's big save on the next possession of Machlof.
Souto finished with two goals for the Eagles and sophomore
Julia Thomas (Wading River, N.Y.) had one.
Casey Brown had five goals for the Tigers.
Up next, the Eagles go on the road to take on Georgian Court in a CACC match on April 9 at 3:30 p.m.
