Allyson Wallauer (Landenberg, Pa.) hit her team-leading fifth homer of the season, but the Post University softball team dropped both games against Caldwell in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader. The Cougars won 2-1 and 13-2.
In a pitchers' duel in game one, starting pitcher, sophomore
Bridget Betley (Fairfield, N.J.) pitched a complete game striking out three and giving up just two runs in the tough loss.
After a scoreless three innings, Caldwell got on the board in the top of the fourth on a solo home run from Maya Rodriguez.
Post tied it in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single from junior
Leyri Rivera (Dover, N.J.) that scored freshman
Brianna Wilky (Swedesboro, N.J.), making it a 1-1 game.Â
In the top of the seventh, however, Caldwell scored on an RBI single from Jessie Johnston to take the 2-1 lead late.Â
The Eagles attempted a rally in the seventh, but left a runner stranded on third.
In game two, with the Eagles down 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Wallauer launched a homer that scored sophomore
Demi Rivera (Hazlet, N.J.) to make it a 2-2 game.
Demi Rivera got on base with a one-out single.
However, the Cougars put the game away in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring six runs and five runs, respectively. The big blow came on a three run homer by Anyssia Ramirez in the sixth.
With three hits combined in the doubleheader,
Leyri Rivera is now five hits away from 100 in her career.
The Eagles now sit at 15-18 overall and 7-11 in the CACC and take on Holy Family on Saturday at home beginning at noon in a doubleheader.
