Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Swept By Goldey-Beacom As Goehrig Homers

Wilmington, De. - Sophomore Matt Goehrig (Clifton, N.J.) homered for the Post University baseball team, but it dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup. The Lightning won game one, 5-3 and game two, 6-2.

In game one, the Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead, scoring one run each in the second, third and fourth innings.

Goehrig's homer, came in the second inning, a one out solo shot to put Post up, 1-0. It was Goehrig's sixth homer of the season. He is second on the team.

After the first two batters reached in the third, junior Travious Ford (Greenville, N.C.) doubled down the line to score freshman Isaias Guzman (Passaic, N.J.) - who singled - to make it a 2-0 game.

In the fourth, Goehirg scored his second run of the game, this time on an RBI single by freshman Nicholas Gastin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), putting the Eagles up 3-0.

The Lightning answered with two runs in the fourth, including an RBI single by Tevin Thomas.

Post kept the lead until the bottom of the sixth when the Lightning struck for three runs. Jeff Gillis hit an RBI triple to tie the game, followed by a double from Connor Megginson to take the lead for good.

Goehrig finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Senior Tyler Kovalewich (Colonia, N.J.) got the start on the mound and struck out four in five innings.

In game two, after falling behind 3-0 early, Guzman hit a two-run double to score Goehrig and Gastin in the bottom of the fifth, cutting the deficit to 3-2. However, the Lightning scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, including a two-run single from Gillis to put the game away for the Lightning.

Junior Trenton Taylor (Taft, Calif.) had four strikeouts in 4.1 innings in his start. He gave up three earned runs.

The Eagles now sit at 16-19 overall and 13-11 in the CACC and will face Assumption in a non-conference game on Friday, April 19 at 3:30 p.m. at Municipal Stadium.
