Norristown, Pa. - The Post University baseball team had another 20-hit performance and another two home runs from junior
Tyler Melko (Knoxville, Penn.), as the Eagles split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader with Chestnut Hill, winning the first game 13-7 and dropping game two, 7-6.
In game one, after the Griffins took an early 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Melko took a pitch from Will Shaffer and put it over the left-centerfield wall to take a 2-1 lead. Junior
Travious Ford (Greenville, N.C.) scored, who doubled to lead off the inning.
After Chestnut Hill took the lead back with two runs in the bottom of the second,
Danny Di Marzo singled to score Ford in the top of the fourth to tie the game at three.
But the Griffins would, at the time, take a commanding lead as Eric Gailham hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-3 lead. It didn't deter the hot hitting Eagles as they answered immediately in the top of the fifth as senior
Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.) singled to start the inning followed by a single by sophomore
Matt Goehrig (Clifton, N.J.) before classmate
Mike Lisnicchia (Stamford, Conn.) hit an RBI single to score Missiti to cut Post's deficit to 7-4.Â
After a walk to
Nicholas Gastin, freshman
Isaias Guzman (Passaic, N.J.) singled to score Goehrig to make it a 7-5 game. After back-to-back RBI groundouts from sophomore
Miguel De Los Santos (Clifton, N.J.) and Ford to tie the game, 7-7, Di Marzo (Fishkill, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to give the Eagles the 8-7 lead and took advantage of a dropped third strike and subsequent error on the catcher that plated Melko, who doubled and Di Marzo to make it a 10-7 game.
The Eagles added a run on a bases loaded hit by pitch by Lisnicchia and a two-run single by Gastin for the final scoring of the game.
In game two, Melko had another two RBI, but the Griffins hit a walkoff RBI single for the 7-6 win.
Post got out of the gate quickly with two runs in the first on an RBI double by Missiti and an RBI single by Gastin. Chestnut Hill got one back in the bottom of the inning before Melko bombed his second home run of the day, with Ford, again, scoring on the play giving Post the 4-1 lead.Â
The Griffins added one more in the top of the third and the Eagles tacked on a run in the top of the fourth with an RBI sac fly from Ford. But three runs in the top of the fourth, including a two-run home run from Eric Small gave Chestnut Hill the 6-5 lead.
Guzman added a solo homer to tie the game, 6-6.
Melko finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
The Eagles (10-12, 8-3 CACC) take on Caldwell at home in a CACC doubleheader on April 3, beginning at noon.
