Wallauer Homers As Softball Splits With STAC

Sparkill, N.Y. - Freshman Allyson Wallauer (Landenberg, Pa.) homered for the second time this season, leading the Post University softball team to a 4-1 game two win in a split with St. Thomas Aquinas. The Eagles lost a tough first game in eight innings, 4-2.

With the Eagles holding a slight 2-1 lead heading into the top of the sixth, Kasey Jusino led off the inning with a single before two straight outs. But Wallauer took a pitch from Adrianna Dilal and put it over the wall to give Post the insurance it needed to seal the win.

St. Thomas Aquinas got on the board first on an RBI single from Amanda Castro in the bottom of the third.

The Eagles responded in the top of the fifth to take the lead as Wallauer doubled to lead off the inning. After two strikeouts, freshman Jazmin Andrews (Queens, N.Y.) tripled to score Wallauer to tie the game, followed by an RBI single by junior Skylar Devorin (Bethany Beach, Del.)

Freshman Samantha McErlane (Mount Ephraim, N.J.) got the win in relief, pitching four innings and striking out one. She is 2-0 on the season.

Wallauer went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Jusino was 3-for-3 with a run.

In game one, the Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the top of the eighth inning, but STAC's Melissa Stadler hit a walk-off three-run homer to give the Spartans the 4-2 win.

The Eagles took the 2-1 lead on a sacrifice fly from Jusino that scored Andrews.

Post got on the board first in the top of the third as sophomore Cassidy Petrie (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to score freshman Paige Delier (Milford, N.H.). The Spartans tied it in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single from Castro.

Sophomore Demi Rivera (Hazlet, N.J.) and freshman Christina Loeffler (East Meadow, N.Y.) combined for four strikeouts on the mound in the losing effort.

Up next, the Eagles (6-9) take on Georgian Court in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader at 1 p.m. on March 30.
