Orangeburg, N.Y. - Sophomore
Bridget Betley (Fairfield, N.J.) struck out eight in game one, but the Post University softball team lost in heartbreaking fashion, 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon against Dominican in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader.
Dominican completed the sweep with an 8-0 defeat of the Eagles in game two.
In the first game, Dominican's Taylor Gilligan hit a walk-off three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Chargers the win.
After the teams were tied after seven innings, the Eagles scored two runs in the top of the eighth as a fielder's choice by freshman
Allyson Wallauer (Landenberg, Pa.) scored sophomore
Cassidy Petrie (Staten Island, N.Y.) to make it a 3-2 game. Freshman
Briana Wilky (Swedesboro, N.J.) followed with an RBI single of her own which scored junior
Leyri Rivera (Dover, N.J.) to make it 4-2.
The Chargers took a 1-0 lead in the first and held that lead until the top of the sixth, when the Eagles took their first lead of the game on back-to-back RBI singles from sophomore
Demi Rivera (Hazlet, N.J.) and freshman
Bailee Zaccaro (Levittown, Pa.) made it a 2-1 game. However, with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Emily Luzetsky of Dominican hit an RBI single to tie the game, 2-2 and send it into extra frames.
Betley got the tough luck loss in her complete game, giving up five earned runs.
Demi Rivera finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI.
In the second game, freshman
Kasey Jusino (Bordentown, N.J.) had both hits for the Eagles in the loss.
Dominican scored four runs in the bottom of the first to take control as Kristin Miscia hit a grand slam for the Chargers.
Up next, the Eagles (4-6, 0-2 CACC) take on USCiences on the road on March 23 at noon in a CACC doubleheader.
