Missiti And Di Marzo Homer, But Eagles Lose to SCSU

Boca Raton, Fla. - Senior Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.) and sophomore Danny Di Marzo (Fishkill, N.Y.) each homered, and the  Eagles baseball team held an eight-run lead, but were unable to hold on, losing 13-10 to in-state rival Southern Connecticut State University on Friday afternoon.

With the loss, the Eagles fall to 2-8 on the season.

After a scoreless two innings, the Eagles bats finally woke up in the bottom of the third, as back-to-back walks drawn by freshman Christian Alberti (Eastchester, N.Y.) and junior Tyler Melko (Knoxville, Penn.) with two outs got Missiti to the plate who jacked his third home run of the season to right field to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.

Post tacked on another run in the fourth on an RBI single by junior Evan Schaffner (Boynton Beach, Fla.) that scored junior Travious Ford (Greenville, N.C.) to make it a 4-0 game before the Eagles busted the game open in the bottom of the fifth.

Missiti started the fifth inning rally with a one out double and advanced to third on a passed ball. After a walk by freshman Nicholas Gastin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), Di Marzo drove in Missiti with an RBI single to give Post the 5-0 lead. Classmate Isaias Guzman (Passaic, N.J.) followed with an RBI ground out before Ford singled to score Di Marzo to make it a 7-0 game before Alberti hit an RBI single to score Ford to give Post the 8-0 lead.

Senior Tyler Kovalewich (Colonia, N.J.) had cruised through the first five innings before running into trouble in the top of the sixth. The first four batters reached base as the Owls scored three runs before the first out, highlighted by a two-run double by Connor Redahan. The Owls added two more runs in the inning, including an RBI double by Anthony Zambito.

However, the Eagles answered in the bottom of the sixth and got two runs back as Di Marzo put a two-run shot to right field to give Post a 10-5 lead. Gastin, who was hit by a pitch, also scored on the homer.

But the Owls did more damage in the top of the seventh as the first three batters reached on a hit-by-pitch before a two run double by Mac Finnegan made it a 10-7 game. After an RBI single by Mike DeMartino and a wild pitch plated Finnegan, Mike DeMartino hit an RBI single to tie the game 10-10. The Owls took their first and only lead on an RBI single by Jim Palmer to take an 11-10 game. They'd tack on two more for the final score.

Missiti finished the game going 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. Di Marzo went 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBI.

Kovalewich pitched 5.2 innings, giving up four earned runs and striking out five.

Finnegan went 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBI.

Up next, the Eagles come back up north to play at Assumption on March 19 at 3:30 p.m. in Worcester, Ma.
