Betley Strikes Out Nine In Win Over Bentley

Kissimmee, Fla. - Sophomore Bridget Betley (Fairfield, N.J.) struck out nine in a complete game shutout as the Post University softball team defeated Bentley, 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles lost earlier in the day to Lewis, 4-2.

In the win over Bentley, Betley struck out the side once - in the third inning - and had at least a strikeout in every inning except for the fifth.

The Eagles provided enough offense for Betley as well. After Post got on the board in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly by freshman Paige Delier (Milford, N.H.), the Eagles were able to score three more in the top of the fourth. With two outs and runners on first and second, freshman Briana Wilky (Swedesboro, N.J.) doubled to center to score Delier, who walked and freshman Allyson Wallauer (Landenberg, Pa.) who singled with one out in the inning. Classmate Kasey Jusino (Bordentown, N.J.) then followed with a double of her own to score Wilky.

Post tacked on one more with a single by sophomore Demi Rivera (Hazlet, N.J.) that allowed junior Leyri Rivera (Dover, N.J.) to score on a throwing error during the play.

Wallauer went 2-for-3 with two runs. Wilky went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In the first game against Lewis, the Eagles fell behind 4-0 before rallying to scoring in the sixth inning to make it a 4-1 game as Delier reached on a fielder's choice to score sophomore Cassidy Petrie (Staten Island, N.Y.) who singled to lead off the inning. However, that was all the Eagles could muster in the inning as they left two on base.

Post had an even better opportunity in the seventh. After back-to-back singles by sophomore Brittany Giordano (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and junior Brianna Koref (Springfield, N.J.), Petrie hit an RBI single to score Giordano. Leyri Rivera then followed with a single, but a fielder's choice followed by a ground out ended the rally for the Eagles as they left the bases loaded.

The Eagles will take on Dominican on the road in a doubleheader in Post's first Central Atlantic Collegiate game of the season on March 19.
